It's been a long time since the last post... probably the length of time it takes for the lettuce and other vegetables to come out ready for harvest! That's the kind of thing I will tell you about today just to give you an idea of the patience you need when working the soil.
After ploughing the ground I eventually planted the tomatoes and lettuce to start with around November 15. Later on, it was the turn of the cucumbers, water melons and melons to hit the ground with a little bit of manure (from our pigs and cow).
As I usually start work around 2pm, I tend to go to "Pika" in the morning 2 or 3 days a week, although I would like to go more often to help dad a bit more. All this to say that the first few weeks after planting is dedicated to "caressing" the plants and checking if any caterpillars whose names`are not on the list managed to break in and disturb the right development of the crops.
"Apres l'effort, le reconfort"is a French phrase that basically says that after the hard work comes the reward. And when you work the soil, your reward is to see the fruit of your labour and then taste it. On January 1, I picked my first lettuce (after 1 month and a half) and no need to tell you how proud I felt and how delicious it was. Since then I have harvested around 2 kilos of tomatoes along with parsley (that I now give away as there is far too much for us) and spring onions!
